Tompkins completed a sweep over Taylor on Tuesday to keep place in the playoff race, while Seven Lakes outlasted Morton Ranch in extra innings and both Katy and Cinco Ranch dominated in their two games.
Tompkins outlasts Taylor
Tompkins earned a second straight win over Taylor on Tuesday, sweeping past the Mustangs and keeping pace in the playoff race behind two RBIs from Ryan Ratajczak and Ian Palacios. Chase Simon pitched a complete game for the Falcons, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out six and walking two. Tompkins improved to 12-11 and 4-4 in district with the win.
Palacios gave Tompkins the lead in the bottom of the first on a 2-run single, but Taylor answered back with two runs in the second on a Davis Harris double to tie the game. The game stayed tied until the fifth inning when Ratajczak hit a 2-run single to give Tompkins the lead and Braden Foor hit a sacrifice bunt to bring the Falcons lead to three. Tompkins didn’t allow a run the rest of the way as they clinched the win.
Harris had the Mustangs only RBis in the game. Easton Wolf pitched 4.2 innings for Taylor and allowed four earned runs on six hits, striking out five and walking four. Taylor fell to 14-9-1 and 4-2 in district with the loss.
Seven Lakes tops Morton Ranch in extra innings
Seven Lakes earned a win over Morton Ranch on Tuesday, beating Morton Ranch 5-4 in nine innings and improving to 3-3 in district with an overall record of 11-9-2 on the season. Christian Villamizar led the way for the Spartans with two RBIs, while James Levin pitched four innings allowed no runs on two hits while striking out six and walking three.
The game was scoreless all the way to the fifth inning, when Morton Ranch got two runs off an error to take the lead. Seven Lakes wasn’t able to get any runs until the seventh inning, when they got their first run on a Max Greathouse RBI triple and then tied it when Ty Berra hit another 1-run single, forcing extra innings. The Spartans took the lead in the top of the eighth on a single from Collin Mills, but Morton Ranch came back to tie it in the bottom of the eighth when Jerry Gutierrez hit a sacrifice fly. Villamizar drove in two on a single in the top of the ninth to give Seven Lakes the lead again. Morton Ranch got one back on an error in the bottom of the inning before a strike out ended the game with Seven Lakes winning by one run.
Morton Ranch was led by Gutierrez, who had the teams only RBI, while Zane Heiliger pitched seven innings for the Mavericks and allowed two runs on two hits, striking out six and walking five. Morton Ranch fell to 6-16-1 overall and 0-8 in district with the loss.
Katy bounces back
Katy bounced back from its first district loss of the season by topping 7-2 on Tuesday, spearheaded by a six run first inning and two RBIs from Cade Nelson and six innings pitched from Connor Udland, who allowed one earned run and struck out seven while walking three.
Katy took the lead in the bottom of the first inning on an AJ Atkinson RBI single and Nelson drove in two more with a single of his own later in the inning. Jeremy Mazariegos added another run on a single and a fielders choice brought in a fifth run before Ashten Ballew singled to make it 6-0 after the first inning. Katy scored on an error in the fifth before Jordan scored on a JD Ortigoza sacrifice grounder and a Bobby Richardson RBI single in the sixth to get the Warriors two runs across. Things ended that way as Arvey Huerta pitched a clean seventh inning without allowing a run.
Ortigoza and Richardson had the two RBIs for Jordan in the loss. Caden Hoff started on the mound for the Warriors as they fell to 11-8 overall and 4-2 in district play.
Cinco wins fifth straight
Cinco Ranch kept up its winning streak and earned a sweep over Mayde Creek by beating the Rams 10-1 on Tuesday behind three RBIs from Lucas Franco and a big day on the mound, who pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six and walking two.
The Cougars struck first, getting a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first before scoring twice more in the second on a Zach Franco single and a Lucas Franco fielders choice. Mayde creek got one run back when Audrey Montano hit an RBI single. Karsten Kleiweg hit another RBI single in the fourth and Lucas Franco followed that up with a sacrifice fly for the Cougars fifth run. Franco added another RBI in the fifth on a sacrifice grounder and Cinco opened it up in the sixth. An error started the scoring in the inning and Cinco got another on a bases loaded walk, another error drove in a ninth run and another bases loaded walk made it 10-1 Cinco before the Cougars closed it out with a good top of the seventh defensively.
Montano had Mayde Creeks lone RBI in the loss and Brandon Lumkins started on the mound for the Rams. Mayde Creek fell to 2-18-1 and 0-8 in district with the loss.
