Jordan got a big win on Friday, handing Katy the teams first district loss this season, while Tompkins did the same to Taylor with a big win. Cinco Ranch and Seven Lakes earned wins as we get closer to the halfway point in district.
Jordan walks off over Katy
Jordan got one of the teams biggest wins of the season on Friday, beating Katy 5-4 on a walk off and improving to 11-7 on the year and 4-1 in District 19-6A in the process.
Luis Vera helped lead the way for the Warriors with two RBIs on two hits, while both Caden Hoff and JD Ortigoza scored two runs in the win. Thomas Eugate pitched six innings for Jordan and allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking one.
Katy took the lead in the first inning on an error and scored a second when AJ Atkinson hit s single to drive in a run. Jordan though came back in the bottom of the inning and scored on an error before trying the game on a sacrifice grounder and taking the lead when Vera hit an RBI single. Katy came back to tie it I the third inning when Sutton Hull hit a sacrifice bunt and then took the lead in the fifth inning on a Jordan error.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh, when Jordan made its comeback. Bobby Richardson tied the game on a RBI single and the Vera stepped to the plate and won it with a single that drove in the winning run, keeping the Warriors towards the top of the pack in district.
Atkinson and Connor Udland had the Tigers two RBIs, Arvey Huerta pitched 3.2 scoreless innings for the Tigers, striking out three and walking one. Katy fell to 13-8 overall and 6-1 in district with the loss.
Tompkins downs Taylor with big performance
Tompkins offense was on fire in a 14-3 run rule win over Taylor on Saturday, with the Falcons getting a big win and giving Taylor its first district loss of the year, while improving to 11-11 on the season and 3-4 in district play. Cooper Markle had a big day for Tompkins, having three hits, two RBIs and three runs scored, while Nic Piazza also had two RBIs and Hudson Maelerts pitched 5.2 innings, allowing 3 runs while striking out six and walking none.
Taylor took control of the game with a strong first inning. Peter Dworaczyk got Taylor in front on a fielders choice and Carlos Cardozo followed that up with a double that drove in two more runs, making it 3-0 Taylor.
Tompkins though fought back. Nic Piazza drew a bases loaded walk in the third for the Falcons first run, before the Falcons broke things open in the fourth. A wild pitch got Tompkins a second run to start the inning before a bases loaded hit by pitch tied it. Cooper Markle hit an RBI single to give Tompkins the lead. Piazza then hit a sacrifice fly that scored two and an error made it 7-3 Falcons.
They kept things going with the fifth, getting a run on an error, adding another on an RBI single from Markle, another on an error, an 11th on a fielders choice and a 12th when Ryan Ratajczak came up and hit another single. Tompkins stretched its lead to 10 when they got a run despite a grounder into a double play and Markle scored the teams final run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning, getting out of the sixth with a clean bottom of the inning and securing the run rule win.
Cinco Ranch stays hot
Cinco Ranch earned a run rule win over Mayde Creek on Friday, beating the Rams 13-1 behind big days at the plate from Ethan Muniz and Tureau, who had three and two RBIs on the day respectively, while Brayden Hodge pitched four innings of shutout ball, striking out three and walking two.
Cinco jumped ahead early and didn’t look back. The Cougars got their first run on a bases loaded walk in the top of the first, getting another on a balk before Muniz singled home two more runs and Dylan Muni hit a double to drive in another, with Brock DeYoung adding a sixth on a single of his own. Cinco added two more runs in the second, getting one on a wild pitch and a second on an Ethan Muniz single and they got a ninth run in the fourth inning when Thomas Guy drove in a run on another single. The Cougars added three more in the fifth inning on errors with Guy then hitting a sacrifice grounder for the teams 13th run. AJ Robinson got one run back for Mayde Creek in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly but that was all the Rams could muster.
Robinson had Mayde Creeks lone RBI in the game. The Rams fell to 2-17-1 overall and 0-7 in district play after the loss.
Spartans bounce back
Seven Lakes got back in the win column with a 6-1 win over Morton Ranch on Friday, improving to 19-9-3 on the year and 2-3 in district. Riley Sherowski had a good day on the mound in the win, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing just one run on two hits while striking out eight and walking one and Max Greathouse led the offense with two RBIs.
The Spartans came out hot, scoring on their second at bat with Eric Montana doubling in a run in the top of the first. Max Greathouse added to the lead with an RBI single and a Dario Becerra hit a sacrifice fly as Seven Lakes went up 3-0 after one inning.
Morton Ranch got a run back in the third inning on a sacrifice grounder from Manuel Aranguren-Bravo, but Seven Lakes bounced back in the fourth. Christian Villamizar hit an RBI single and Greathouse followed that up with a sacrifice bunt. Ty Berra then hit a single to drive in a sixth run. Morton Rach wasn’t able to score the rest of the way as Seven Lakes clinched the win.
Arangure had the Mavericks lone RBI, while Leo Banuelos pitched four innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking four. Morton Ranch fell to 6-15-1 overall and 0-7 in district with the loss.
