Katy continued its unbeaten run in district on Tuesday, while Jordan overcame Mayde Creek, Taylor held on for a win over Cinco Ranch and Paetow run ruled Morton Ranch.
Smith, Soeken dominate in Katy win over Tompkins
Katy kept its dominant form up on Tuesday, run ruling Tompkins 15-0 in four innings and improving to 24-1-1 and 9-0 in district. Maddie Smith and Lauren Soeken led the way in the win, with both hitting grand slams and ending the game with four RBIs, while Camryn Harrison pitched a four-inning shutout allowing just one hit and striking out five and walking one.
Katy got one run in the first inning on a bases loaded walk to take the lead and got two more in the second inning, with Ashtyn Reichardt driving in a run on a single and Haley Gore hitting a sacrifice fly. Lauren Soeken added four more runs in the third inning, hitting a grand slam once the bases loaded to start the inning, Lexie Waugh followed that up with a solo home run and Katy got another on an error, with another scoring on a bases loaded walk. Maddie Smith then stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hit the teams second grand slam of the inning, making it 14-0 Katy. Harrison then ended the game in the bottom of the fourth, hitting a single to drive in the teams 15th run.
Samantha Crumrin started on the mound and went two innings, allowing six earned runs on five hits while walking four. The Falcons fell to 9-11 overall and 5-4 in district after the loss.
Jordan overcomes Mayde Creek
Jordan outlasted Mayde Creek for an important win Tuesday, beating the Rams 8-6 behind a late inning surge and improving to 8-10 overall and 3-5 in district. Madison Royse led the Warriors with three RBIs on two hits, while Ryan McIntosh pitched a complete game, allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out 12 and walking seven.
Mayde Creek went in front in the top of the first inning and scored another when Kaitlyn Flores hit a single later in the inning. Jordan tied it in the bottom of the inning when Royse came to the plate and hit a 2-run home run and it stayed that way until the third inning. Aislyn Duhon gave the Warriors the lead with a double that drove in one and Halle Brazan followed that up with a 2-run double.
Mayde Creek came back to tie the game in the fifth inning on a Flores 3-run home run and then took the lead in the sixth when Alexia Ruiz hit a triple to drive in one. Jordan had the answer in the bottom of the bottom of the sixth, Lyra Berry tied the game on a single and Royse gave Jordan the lead with another single. Royse then stole home to increase Jordans lead to two runs. Mayde Creek couldn’t score the rest of the way as Jordan clinched the win.
Mayde Creek was led by Flores, who had four RBIs. Brown started on the mound and pitched six innings, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits, striking out nine and walking five. Mayde Creek fell to 3-9 overall and 2-4 in district with the loss.
Late surge leads Taylor past Cinco
Taylor earned a huge win on Tuesday, staying in second in the playoff race by beating Cinco Ranch 8-6 behind seven runs in the final two innings. Ari Hughes was huge at the plate, leading the team with three RBIs while also pitching a complete game, allowing three earned runs while striking out six and walking one. Taylor improved to 15-9 on the season and 8-1 in district with the win.
Cinco Ranch jumped ahead early, gaining the lead on a Ollie Cooper single and scoring two more when Aubrey Ramirez came to the plate and hit a 2-run home run. The cougars kept Taylor off the board until the fourth inning, when Sophia Ybanez hit a single, trimming the lead to two. Cinco responded though, scoring on a Ramirez double and again on an error. Taylor came back with a big sixth inning, Bethany Fan scored on a passed ball and then Hughes singled to drive in two more, making it a one run game.
Cinco got one run in the bottom of the inning on an error, but Taylor again had a strong answer. Fan hit a double to trim Cinco’s lead to one run and Ybanez hit another single to tie it. Hughes then hit what ended up being a game winning double to drive in two. Hughes pitched a clean bottom of the seventh to clinch the win.
Ramirez led the way for Cinco Ranch with three RBIs. Savannah Henningson pitched a complete game for the Cougars and allowed six earned runs on nine hits, striking out seven and walking one.
Paetow run rules Morton Ranch
Paetow beat Morton Ranch 16-0 in four innings on Tuesday, getting an important win that kept he Panthers a game back of the top four in district and improving the team to 14-14 overall and 4-5 in district play. The Panthers had five players with two or more RBIs on the day and Jiselle Lopez pitched a perfect game, allowing nothing over four innings while striking out five.
Lopez got Paetow on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI single, Lea Avila doubled in another run, Amanda Vasquez hit an RBI single and Mia Galarza drove in a fourth with a single of her own. The Panthers continued to add on in the second, Glorya Howland drove in a run on a single, Alexis Rodriguez added a 2-run single, Lopez singled in another and Vasquez drove in two on a double before there was even an out in the inning. Paetow added an 11th run on an error and were in complete control after two innings, scoring five runs over the third and fourth to secured the win.
Bailey Hays pitched for Morton Ranch and allowed eight earned runs over three innings on nine hits, also walking three. Morton Ranch fell to 4-12-1 overall and 0-7 in district with the loss.
