Three Katy ISD players will compete in next year’s Bayou Bowl, as players from Katy, Taylor and Mayde Creek were named to the Greater Houston football Coaches Association Roster in what is shaping up to be an exciting game.
Katy’s Adam Carter, Taylor’s Solomon Ross and Mayde Creek’s Johnaton Haywood were all named to the roster after terrific senior seasons in which they were leaders on their teams and staked a claim as some of the top talents around the Houston area.
Carter was named to the roster as the Greater Houston Area’s kicker and punter. Carter has had a terrific senior year as both a punter and on the defensive line. He has led the Tigers up front on defense and leads the district in punt average with nearly 43 yards per punt, and touchbacks.
Ross, a senior safety from Taylor was also named to the team. Ross has been instrumental to the Mustangs defense over the past two years and along with being one of their top players also has picked up a role as captain and one of the top leaders in the program, especially in his senior season.
Haywood, a senior linebacker and safety, has been key to a resurgent Mayde Creek team this year. He is second on the Rams in tackles and third on the team in tackles for loss sacks and second on the team in interceptions as well. The versatile senior helped the Rams have a strong year defensively and became one of the better defensive players in District 19-6A and the surrounding area.
The Bayou Bowl will be played January 4th at Eagle Stadium in Mont Belvieu. It will be different than in years past as it will feature a roster from the Greater Houston Area against a roster that will include some of the best players from East Texas. It is the first time the bowl game has changed from its former format of East Houston vs. West Houston teams. Dickinson head football coach John Snelson will coach the offense for the Houston area team and Barbers Hill head football coach Carl Abseck will coach the defense.
