A terrific year of football in Katy ISD was capped off with the District 19-6A All-District Team, with the district naming co-MVPs for year. Katy’s Adam Carter and Mayde Creek’s Tobi Haastrup shared the honors after both had tremendous seasons.
Carter was named Co-MVP after helping lead Katy to a district title and a regional semifinal appearance. Katy went 11-2 overall and 8-0 in district on the year, making to the third round of the playoffs and putting up a strong fight against North Shore. Carter was one of the biggest difference makers up front for Katy, helping lead a defense that allowed under 15 points per game on the year and that was especially pesky against the run game. He was also one of the biggest difference makers on special teams, averaging over 43 yards per punt, leading the district in district in kickoff statistics and making his presence felt in multiple ways.
Haastrup burst on to the scene this year in his first year playing varsity football, helping Mayde Creek have a strong season and improve in the team’s first year under head coach Mike Arogbonlo. Overall, the Rams went 5-5, while going 3-5 in district play, earning wins over Seven Lakes, Morton Ranch and Taylor. Haastrup was a force to be reckoned with on the defensive side, even while learning his position, earning 48 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 23 hurries and 11 sacks while having to be accounted for by offenses every game.
They were joined on the superlatives list by Jordan’s Andrew Marsh, who was named the district’s offensive MVP, Jordan’s Brayden Coffie and Paetow’s Carmello Brooks, who were named co defensive MVP’s, Cinco Ranch’s Daniel Scarabino, who was named the district’s special teams MVP and Tompkins’ Ethan Meadows, who was named the district’s newcomer of the year.
Katy head coach Gary Joseph and Paetow head coach David Hicks were named the district’s co-coaches of the year. With the Katy and Paetow coaching staff’s also splitting the coaching staff of the year honors.
Marsh had a good year in his senior season, catching 65 passes for 1172 yards and 11 touchdowns, with a long of 82 yards and averaging over 97 yards per game receiving. Coffie had 84 tackles, including seven tackles for loss and caused two fumbles. Both players helped Jordan to its best ever season, leading the Warriors to an 11-2 overall record and a 7-1 district record as Jordan reached the third round of the playoffs for the first time.
Brooks was third in the district in sacks and helped lead Paetow to its best season since joining the Class 6A ranks. Paetow ended the year with a 7-4 record and 6-2 district record, with the Paetow defense and Brooks being a big part of that.
Scarabino was terrific on special teams all year for Cinco Ranch, he had 639 yards in kick returns, while leading Cinco Ranch with 105 tackles, including two tackles for loss, while adding an interception and five passes deflected as Cinco narrowly missed the playoffs with a 4-6 record and 4-4 district record.
Meadows helped lead Tompkins to a playoff appearance and good season, going 6-5 overall and 5-3 in district. Meadows ran for 1316 yards and averaged over 100 yards per game on the ground, while rushing for 22 touchdowns, he also added 122 yards receiving on 12 catches with three receiving touchdowns in a tremendous sophomore year.
Joseph led Katy to its fourth straight outright district title and back to the third round of the playoffs, even as the Tigers battled injuries and setbacks throughout the year. Hicks led Paetow to their first playoff appearance since the Panthers joined the Class 6A ranks and their highest finish in district since 2021 as the Panthers went 7-4 overall and 6-2 in district while making the bi-district round of the playoffs.
Those players were all named to the district’s first team and were joined by many others. On the offensive line, Katy’s Byron Nelson, Patrick McMath and Lamar Brown were named to the team alongside Tompkins Deacon Parrish and Erben Birkhoff, Paetow’s Kai Nguyen and Will Thornton. At running back, Meadows was joined by Katy’s Tremayne Hill and Paetow’s Terrence Johnson, while Katy’s Joshua Smith and Tompkins Carter Young earned honors at fullback. Marsh was joined by Katy’s Israel Olotu-Judah and Cinco Ranch’s Scott Eckel. Jordan’s Tanner West earned first team honors as an athlete, Cinco Ranch’s Charlie Adamoli was named the first team quarterback and Paetow’s Ikenna Nwobu was named to the first team as a tight end.
Defensively, Brooks, Haastrup and Carter were joined on the defensive line by Jordan’s Jimmy Phrisco Alo-Suliafu. Coffie was joined at linebacker by Katy’s Jermiah Hill and Cameron Cousins along with Kosi Okpala from Mayde Creek. At defensive back, Scarabino earned a first team nod along with Katy’s Isaiah McMillan and Jaco Hilton, Jordan’s Zach Taylor and Paetow’s Dayjhon Pettaway. On special teams, Carter earned the nod at punter while Katy’s Jon Stephens earned a spot as the snapper, McMillan earned a spot as the returner, Katy’s Giovanni Moreno earned a spot at kicker and Jordan’s Sebastian Baptista also earned a spot as a kicker.
On the second team, Tompkins Justin Thierheimer was named the quarterback, Jordan’s Zion Jones, Cinco Ranch’s Marcus Gadlin, Katy’s Aqualis Jordan and Morton Ranch’s Tyler Gilmore earned nods at running back and Paetow’s Kennet Hlee earned a spot at fullback. At receiver Mayde Creek’s Daylin Robinson, Tompkins Bisi Bello and Cinco Rnach’s Drew Tureau made the team while at tight end Stephens was named to the team.
On second team defense, Paetow’s Nicholas Elko and Daryl Campbell along with Taylor’s Alex McMoore and Katy’s Isaac Coughran were named to the defensive line. At linebacker Mayde Creek’s Christian Arogbonlo, Cinco Ranch’s Luke Mathiasmeier, Tompkins Josh Davis, Jordan’s Owen Lindsey and Taylor’s Landon Saurage were named linebackers. At defensive back Jordan’s Avery McMillan, Jeremy Alo-Perry and Rocket Alo-Perry, Katy’s Mason Dismuke and Paetow’s Jaeden Spelmon were named to the team while Katy’s Cooper Knott earned honors an all-purpose pick.
The special teams spots were filled out by Cinco Ranch’s Jesus Bravo was named kicker, Mayde Creek’s Anthony Aileru and Tate Dietz were named to it as punter and snapper and Zion Jones earned a spot as a returner.
On the third team, Gunner Nelson from Katy earned quarterback honors, while Taylor’s Xavier Haynes, Seven Lakes Apollo Lema and Cinco Ranch’s Brayden Gonzlaez were named to the team and at fullback Morton Ranch’s Adien Farris earned third team honors.
At wide receiver Katy’s Cade McCall, Jordan’s Landon Williams and KJ Madison were named to the third team and Tompkins Will Mayes earned tight end honors. On the offensive line, Jordan’s Reed Lewis and Carter Brousseau, Cinco Ranch’s Jacob Albright, Seven Lakes Jason Manrique and Taylor’s Hank Tulenko were named to the team.
For the third teams defense, Paetow’s Key’Tavien Williams was named the all purpose player, while Jordan’s Jason Lee, Katy’s Terry Brister, Seven Lakes Hayden Gandolfo and Mayde Creek’s Eliacim Baltierrez were named to the team on the defensive line. At linebacker, Jordan’s Mason Baird, Tompkins Kendree Madriz and Preston Smith, Seven Lakes Justin Fowler and Mayde Creek’s Johnaton Haywood were named to the team and at defensive back Jordan’s Austin Baird, Morton Ranch’s Jerome Ryans, Seven Lakes Matt Fowler, Tompkins Daniel Kalu and Katy’s Josh Garcia were named to the team.
The third team’s special teams included Marsh as a returner, Jordan’s Kaikane Napoleon as snapper, Cinco Ranch’s Andrew Reagan as a punter and Mayde Creek’s Michael Garcia as a kicker.
