Soccer season kicks off this week and for the Katy ISD boys it will kick off in a big way with the return of one of the top tournaments in the state, the Mojo Showcase.

The tournament, hosted by Katy ISD, brings together some of the best talent from around the state of Texas which will all play Thursday-Saturday, competing at Katy ISD high schools.

The annual tournament was renamed in 2016 to honor Tompkins head coach Tom Jones daughter, Morgan, who died in August 2015 following a year-long battle with Cancer. Mojo was Morgan’s nickname, consisting of the first two letters of her first and last named. The tournament is a reminder of her strength and fight.

The tournament will bring together some of the very best teams in Region III. Half of the teams ranked in the top 10 of the TASCO preseason Region III-6A rankings will play in the tournament this week, including preseason No. 1 ranked Seven lakes, No. 2 ranked Cinco Ranch, No. 5 ranked Jordan, No. 8 ranked Strake Jesuit and No. 10 ranked Tompkins.

Those four Katy ISD schools will be joined by Katy, Paetow, Morton Ranch and Taylor at the tournament, with all but Katy hosting and the Tigers competing in three of the brackets.

The tournament will kick off the season for most teams

Overall, 39 different teams will come together to compete at the tournament and compete for the three days, all battling for the top spot our of their brackets and gaining experience before district play.

It will be a quick turnaround as Katy ISD teams will start district on Tuesday and go straight into the grind of District 19-6A play

Tompkins will battle in its bracket against Fulshear, Dulles and Heights. Paetow will be up against Goose Creek Memorial, Strake Jesuit and Fort Bend Austin, Morton Ranch will be against Victoria East, Channelview and George Ranch. Seven Lakes will have San Antonio Ragan, Houston Westside and Foster in its bracket. Taylor will go up against Hightower and Cy-Woods. Cinco Ranch will play Prosper, Langham Creek and Sam Houston. Jordan will be against Brazoswood, Grand oaks and Kempner. Katy will be in the Terry bracket along with Terry, Spring Woods and North Shore. Royal will play in the Lamar Consolidated bracket along with Lamar Consolidated and Houston Lamar.
