Seven Lakes, Jordan fall just short of state 7-on-7

Seven Lakes and Jordan both came within a game of qualifying for this month’s State 7-on-7 tournament last weekend at the Tompkins State Qualifying Tournament, with both making it to the qualifying round but being unable to win in their final game in the qualifying finals.

Seven Lakes, Jordan fall just short of state 7-on-7

Seven Lakes and Jordan both came within a game of qualifying for this month’s State 7-on-7 tournament last weekend at the Tompkins State Qualifying Tournament, with both making it to the qualifying round but being unable to win in their final game with both falling in the qualifying finals.

Seven Lakes started the day with a 27-0 win over Tompkins JV  in pool play and also beat Lamar 29-20 before falling to Cy-Springs 15-14, making it out of the pool stage before coming up just short against Randle in the state qualifying round, losing 35-27.

Jordan was dominant in pool play to make it to the state qualifying round. The Warriors beat Waller 20-12 before beating Mayde Creek 26-12 and Alief Taylor 18-14. Jordan came even closer than Seven Lakes in the state qualifying round, losing 22-20 in an extremely close game.

Tompkins, which had already qualified for state, went undefeated as hosts. The varsity program earned a 27-6 win over Klein, also beating Hightower 32-28, Strake Jesuit 21-0 and Cy-Springs 25-19.

Cinco Ranch also kept up its winning ways after qualifying for the state tournament. The Cougars beat Taylor 27-13 and Randle 27-0, but lost to 24-19 to go 2-1 on the day.

Mayde Creek and Taylor also competed at the Tompkins State Qualifying Tournament. The Rams took a 25-0 win over Alief Taylor and lost 26-7 to Jordan and 20-19 in a battle against Waller in pool play. Taylor lost three games, 27-13 to Cinco Ranch, 32-12 against Randle and 20-6 against Langham Creek as both the Rams and Mustangs were unable to advance to the state qualifying round.
