Louise Hatfield (Wingo) (Abt) Clay of Weston Lakes, TX, was born in Liberty, TX, on October 30, 1939. She left this earth on May 12 at age 82 from the effects of MDS (myelodysplastic syndromes - in the leukemia family).
Louise was a math graduate of University of North Texas, before the day of computer science. She was one of the early computer programmers and worked many years at Texas Instruments in Dallas when computers were huge, slow and very unfriendly. She was employed later at Halliburton in Houston. She also built and started an unrelated business, Animal Inn, which she completely computerized and owned for 25 years. Louise was a lifelong violinist and pianist and an enthusiastic bridge player. She won trips to the National Spelling Bee twice, at age 11 and age 12, and was a finalist in Washington, D.C., both years winning 11th place and then 10th place in the nation.
Louise was the mother of Walter Wingo, who came into this world with cerebral palsy, IDD and many other problems. Walt is a long-time resident of Richmond State Supported Living Center ("RSSLC"), formerly known as Richmond State School. Until her death, Louise was a very devoted and active parent to Walt, always looking for events or places or things that Walt would enjoy. Her focus was on giving Walt the highest-quality life he could possibly have. She was past president of the Families of Richmond State Supported Living Center charity. She was also active with the Volunteer Services Council of Richmond State Supported Living Center.
Louise is survived by her husband Herman M. Clay, Jr., sister Sara Thompson of Beaumont, TX, son Walter Wingo mentioned above, stepsons Michael, John and Jason Abt, stepson Rush Clay, stepdaughter Lisa Clay Dimmitt, and very special extended family Mark Montalvo, who is Walt's best friend of many years. Mark will now step in and be Walt's guardian.
