Cameryn Harrison keeps stacking the accolades.

Harrison, Katy’s senior pitcher that led them to the regional final this season, earned a huge honor on Saturday, being named the Gatorade Texas High School Softball Player of the Year after a historic season.

“Cameryn can throw hard and move the ball around,” Paetow head coach Ryan Baker said to Gatorade. “She hits her spots and does not make many mistakes. She’s that pitcher that wants the ball and does not want to come out of the game. She can hit for power, but also drop down a bunt when asked to do it. She’s a team player and will do what she has to do to help her team win games.”

Harrison was one of the most dominant forces in the state this year, she led the Tigers to a 39-3-1 record, undefeated district championship with a 16-0 record and spearheaded the Tigers in the playoffs on the way to reaching the Region III-6A Final. She compiled a 22-1 record on the mound with a 0.53 ERA and 232 strikeouts in 119.1 innings pitched, averaging 1.94 strikeouts per inning. At the plate she batted .500 with 47 RBIs, 10 home runs and 28 runs scored.

“She’s just everything you want in a player,” said retired Katy softball coach Kalum Haack earlier this year. She has all the talent, the pitching the hitting, but it’s her work ethic and leadership that stick out. She’s like a second coach out there. She just has special qualities and it’s going to take her a long way.”

The Gatorade State Player of the Year’s awards celebrate the nation’s top high school athletes for excellence on the field, in the classroom and in the community and includes some of the top players to play in the sport, including Cat Osterman, Rachel Garcia, Ava Brown and Amanda Freed.

Harrison was chosen for the award for more than just her on field performance. She is part of the Peer Assistance, Leadership and Service (PALS) program at Katy High School and volunteers locally with the Katy Girls Softball Association spring clinic. At school she graduated with a 3.73 GPA.

Harrison, who is ranked the No 6 pitcher nationally in the class of 2024 will continue her academic and athletic career at the University of Arkansas, a program that has made it ot the NCAA Tournament each of the past four years.

“She’s the best pitcher I have ever been around,” said Katy senior center fielder Ashtyn Reichardt earlier this season. “She goes out and makes every pitch and works hard every pitch. It makes all of her teammates want to work hard for her and just everything she brings to a team lifts her teammates up.”
