Coming off their best season since 2006, the Katy Tigers earned some big praise in this year’s Class 6A preseason Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association poll.
The Tigers were only behind Pearland Flower Mound, San Antonio Johnson, Rockwall-Heath and Westlake in the rankings. Katy is the second team in Region III ranked and one of three Region III teams in the top 10 along with Pearland and Ridge Point.
Katy had a historic year last season, where the Tigers finished third in district before going on a huge run in the playoffs, winning every game from bi-district through the regional semifinals and making it all the way to the Class 6A Region III Final.
Katy returns some of the best pitching in the state this year and has some continuity with returners on the offensive side of the ball as well. The Tigers goal is to push just as far as last season and find a way to Austin at the end. The Tigers will start the season on Feb. 22 with a very interesting game where they will take on Ridge Point, a fellow top 10 in the top 10 of the preseason poll.
