Tompkins (5-1, 1-1) vs. Taylor (1-5, 0-2), 6 p.m., Legacy Stadium

  • Tompkins suffered its first setback of the season last week as the Falcons fell to Katy in a game where the Tompkins defense had no answer for the Tigers offense. The Falcons had their hopes of a second straight district title probably dashed in the process but there is no time for the team to think about the loss, as they will be back in action on Thursday. Josh McMillan had a great day against the Tigers and will hope to add to his performance while the Tompkins defense will need to get back on track to the way it was playing before the Katy game.
Taylor has struggled all season and the Mustangs losing streak is now at five games after a poor performance against Seven Lakes. The Taylor defense was unable to shut down any form of the Seven Lakes attack as the Mustangs allowed over 450 yards of total offense in the loss. Sophomore quarterback Chase Cobbin showed signs of promise but also made mistakes in his first varsity start and the team was unable to only rely on the run game. Things get even rougher this week for the Mustangs as they face a team that will be wanting to bounce back after a rough loss to Katy. The Mustangs defense will look to improve and show fight against a very strong Tompkins offense.

Paetow (5-0, 3-0) vs. Wisdom (0-6, 0-4), 7 p.m., Rhodes Stadium

  • Paetow has continued to roll through its district schedule so far this season as the Panthers have yet to even have a game come down to two scores. The Panthers rolled over Milby last week in the team’s second straight shutout as CJ Dumas threw for 118 yards and two touchdowns and the Paetow run game got whatever it wanted as Damyrion Phillips had 80 yards and two scores and D.J. Johnson rushed for 83 yards and one touchdown. Alex Kilgore had two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery while Michael Jordan had an interception in the game. Next for Paetow is a Wisdom, which hasn’t won a game this season. Paetow will look to continue its dominant streak and go for its third straight shutout against a team that has been unable to stop teams on defense and has struggled offensively.

Seven Lakes (4-2, 1-1) vs. Morton Ranch (3-2, 1-0), 6 p.m., Legacy Stadium

  • Seven Lakes put itself in a good position last week with a win over Taylor and it sets up a huge matchup with Morton Ranch that could decide one or both teams’ playoff fates further down the line. Sophomore running back Barrett Hudson had himself a game, running for 246 yards and a score while Michael Amico also went over the century mark in rushing as well. Keegan Sneedon looked like a very strong weapon in the kicking game, making three field goals and converting all of his point after attempts, and the Seven Lakes defense was very strong in the win.
Morton Ranch comes off a bye week and hopes to be more healthy as the team only had 35 players available against Taylor two weeks ago, but the Mavericks have played strong of late, especially on the offensive end and will try to continue that in this game. Santana Scott has turned into a very real threat for the team while at quarterback Josh Johnson is able to attack teams both through the air and on the ground. The Morton Ranch defense will have to have a strong game to slow down the Seven Lakes run and play action attack and the offense will be looking to do more of what it has been doing. Seven Lakes will look to carry over last weeks performance and continue to dominate on the ground and defensively.

Mayde Creek (2-3, 0-1) vs. Katy (6-0, 2-0) , 7 p.m., Rhodes Stadium

  • Mayde Creek and Katy will meet this week in a tough matchup for the Rams. Mayde Creek comes off a tough loss to Cinco Ranch but showed signs of promise in the game. The passing game was strong for Mayde Creek. Against a tough Cinco Ranch defense, Jaylen Bragg threw for 205 yards and Jordan Kelly had 135 yards receiving and two touchdowns on five receptions. The team was unable to get the run game going however, as the Rams allowed Gavin Rutherford to pass for 216 yards and two scores as well as rush for 60 yards and two scores and allowed Sam McKnight to rush for 128 yards in the loss.
Katy on the other had comes into the matchup looking as strong as they have all season, after completely shutting down Tompkins last week. Katy had over 600 yards of total offense and Caleb Koger was on fire in the game while the run game was as strong as always. Defensively, they completely shut down a Tompkins offense that had been very strong heading into the matchup and the team looks determined to continue its dominance. The Tigers will be confident and try to continue what they have been doing, while the Rams will continue to find balance in the offense and try to find a way to stop a surging Katy offense.
