Katy ISD had a strong meet at the Region III-6A track and field meet and sent a number of athletes to the state track and field meet next week after big performances.
The highlight of the meet was the Tompkins boys continuing to be one of the best in the state and region. The Falcons finished second overall, behind only Atascocita, finishing with 95 points, five back of first place, while Katy’s boys finished fifth, Cinco Ranch’s boys finished seventh and Seven Lakes’ boys finished eighth.
The Falcons came in first place in the 800-meter relay with a time of one minute 24.66 seconds and have the third fastest time in the state heading into the state meet. Jayden Keys kept up his dominant senior season, winning the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 36.72 seconds, wining the long jump with a jump of 7.42 meters, finishing second and qualifying for state in the 110-meter hurdles, while also being a part of the third place 400-meter relay team that qualified for state. Griffen Saacke added a gold medal in the 3200-meter run.
London Jackson Bray finished first in the 110-meter dash for Katy with a time of 11.44 for Katy and Adam Carter and Tyler Willis finished first and second in the shot put with throws of 18.09 meters and 17.13 meters. Mayde Creek’s Elijah Ferguson came in first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.78 seconds. Seven Lakes earned wins in the boy and girls pole vault as well as the girls shot put. Max Austin won the boys pole vault with a jump of 3.73 meters, while Carla Angueira-Colombani finished first in the girls pole vault with a jump of 3.73 meters, Janey Campbell joined them on the god medal stand by winning the girls shot put with a throw of 14.25 meters.
In Class 4A, the Royal girls won both the 400 and 800-meter relays. A team of Adrianna Propet-Smith, Andrea Shaw, Aliyah Wilson and Airriona Jackson came in first both relays. the team won the 400-meter relay with a time of 48.11 seconds and won the 800-meter relay with a time of one minute, 42.06 seconds.
