Cinco Ranch and Katy both continued tremendous wrestling seasons with strong finishes in the Region III-6A Tournament on Saturday.
The Katy girls took top honors in the region by finishing in first place, garnering 163 total points, 38 point above second place Cy-Ranch. The Cougars kept a historic season going by having a very strong performance in regionals, finishing second in the region with 166 points, just half a points behind first place finisher Clear Lake as Cinco Ranch sent a number of wrestlers to the state tournament.
Katy had two players clinch regional titles on the way to their first place finish. Noelle Adams beat Paetow’s Giada Muller in the 132 pound weight class final and Abby Fonseca beat Mayde Creek’s Jade Boyd in the 235 pound weight class final to lead the way.
The Katy girls also got a third place finish in the 100 pound weight class from Natalie Roberson, a third place finish in the 120-pound weight class by Emily Beltran, a fourth place finish in the 138 pound weight class by Haley Pitts, a third place finish in the 145 pound weight class by Savannah Freifeld and a third place finish by Terra Pitts in the 152 pound weight class.
On the boys side, Cinco Ranch came just short of a regional title and finished second behind Clear Lake. The Cougars had a great showing that included two first place finishers.
Jackson Herman came in first in the 132 pound weight class, increasing his record to 42-2 this season. He was joined by Vince Echavarry on the gold medal stand, as Echavarry improved to 34-1 on the year by beating Clear Lakes Alex Adame in the 150 pound first place match.
The Cougars also got points from Max Marino, who finished fourth in the 106 pound weight class, Gabe Cox, who finished third in the 113 pound weight class, Dale Box in the 126 pound weight class, Max Herman finished second in the 138 pound weight class, Maddox Fritz finished sixth in the 157 pound weight class and Anderson Tate finished fourth in the 190 pound weight class.
Jordan added two first place finishers on the boys side, Jeremy Alo-Perry claimed the gold medal in the 190 pound weight class and Garrett McChesney took first in the 138 pound weight class with his win over Max Herman. Katy’s Adrian Fierros had a first place finish in the 120 pound weight class.
On the girls side, Cinco Ranch’s Nevada Daniels took gold in the 114 pound weight class and Seven Lakes’ Camryn Strohan finished first in the 152 pound weight class.
