Kathryn Elizabeth Burdette, 78, passed from this life on September 12, 2022, peacefully in her home.
Kathy was born on November 21, 1943, in Pueblo, CO, to Floyd and Evelyn Cowan. She was born into a baseball loving family and spent much of her childhood at the baseball field. Her grandfather managed the Pueblo Dodgers, the farm team for the Brooklyn Dodgers. While her family worked selling tickets and concessions, Kathy enjoyed sitting in the stands or playing nearby with her many dolls (all of which were named “Anna”).
Kathy graduated from East High School in Pueblo, CO, and soon after met the love of her life, William, at the movie theater where they both worked. She married William Henry Burdette on October 19, 1962. Kathy followed him from Pueblo to Washington, D.C., and eventually to Leavenworth, KS, where they lived for 32 years.
Kathy had a passion for teaching children in Bible class and for needlework. Her house and the houses of those she loved were often decorated with her needle-based art. She loved her family and friends fiercely and blessed them with handmade gifts frequently.
She was an outgoing and welcoming soul who went out of her way to make others feel included. Living near a military base, Kathy always had a table full of soldiers who were not able to be with their families during the holidays.
Kathy is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, William Henry Burdette, her son and daughter-in-law Bill and April Burdette, and her three grandchildren: Zachary, Emily, and Laura Burdette.
She is preceded in death by her parents Evelyn and Floyd Cowan, her brother Milton Cowan, and her niece Tracy Cowan.
Services for Kathryn Burdette will be held at 11:00 a.m. on September 24th at the Katy Church of Christ, with burial to follow in Colorado at a later date.
