James Gardner Wilson, a proud veteran of The United States Army, passed away peacefully to Heaven on July 28th, 2021 at the age of 97.

Born July 16th, 1924 in Wharton, New Jersey to James Gardner Wilson Sr. and Margaret Skelly. James grew up during the Great Depression but that didn’t stop him from thriving. He became a well-known singer at an early age in his area of Jersey and performed regularly on the local radio shows. In his late teenage years, he joined the military and served during World War II. After leaving the military and returning to New Jersey he would do many things including meeting the love of his life Marjorie Delp and starting a family, serving at the local fire department, and becoming a freemason at his local lodge where he held many positions. Eventually, he would leave the garden state and relocate with his family calling Houston, Texas home.

James is survived by his sisters, Joan Gunby and Muriel Chipoletti; three children, James Gary Wilson Sr. and wife Dawn, Donna Lee (Wilson) Downes, and Kevin Edward Wilson and wife Nayeli; grandchildren, Amber Wood, James Gary Wilson Jr., Charles Wilson, Morgan Wilson, Zachary Wilson, Kelsey Wilson, Kobe Wilson, Jacquelyn Thelen, David Thelen, Scott Davis; numerous great-grandchildren; and many family-like grandchildren, including Angela Lozzi, Kimberly Matthews, and Joshua Easto.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Marjorie Jane Wilson; along with his parents James and Margaret; sisters, Sarah Wagner and Margaret Caporaso and grandchildren, Erin Wilson, Nikki Thelen, and Michael Lozzi.

Sergeant James G. Wilson was one of the greatest men from the greatest generation. James served as a sergeant for the United States Army proudly during World War II as a combat engineer. James stormed Omaha Beach, D-Day June 6th, 1944 and one of his greatest achievements of that time was bringing all 13 men he was in charge of home safely to their families.

Jim, as most knew him, was born a survivor, a grab life by the horns individual, he made the most of every opportunity and not only worked hard to give his family a good life but also knew how to slow down and enjoy life with those around him. In his leisure time, Jim enjoyed spending time with family at various events, trips to the beach with his caretaker and friend, Terry Johnson, and treating everyone he loved to a good meal. His family and friends will always remember the love he showed for others, his positive attitude towards life, and never being able to say ‘no’ to a dessert. Jim was the definition of a kind soul, never meeting a stranger. He always made an effort to brighten up someone's day and had no problem with cracking a joke in order to get the job done. He was a role model to those around him and his infectious smile and personality will be missed by so many.

MAY HE REST IN PEACE.

The service for Mr. James G. Wilson will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, Saturday, August 14th, 2021 at 11:30 a.m.
