GEORGE ALBERT GENTRY October 27, 1933 – December 21, 2023.
George “G.A.” Gentry of Katy, Texas passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on December 21, 2023. Born in Slaughters, Kentucky on October 27, 1933, the fourth of five children to William Forrest Gentry and Eva Ashlock Gentry, he graduated from high school in Oakland Maryland in 1951, and served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division, from 1956-1958. He married Mary Jean Asher in 1960, with whom he had four children and celebrated 51 years of marriage before her passing in 2012. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1963 with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, and spent his career working on large-scale industrial construction projects around the world. He retired from Kellogg-Brown & Root in 1998 after over 20 years of service. George and family lived in Katy, Texas since 1978 and attended St. Peter’s United Methodist Church. He was selflessly devoted to his family, loved working on cars, and to the end of his life he excelled in telling corny dad jokes. He is invariably remembered for his kindness by those who had the good fortune to know him.
George is survived by his sister, Margaret Gentry McCarthy of Scottsdale, Arizona; his children, George Gregory Gentry of Houston, Michael Asher Gentry of Scottsdale, Arizona, Richard Wade Gentry of Katy, and Brenda Renee Gentry of Round Rock; two grandchildren, Jonathan Matthew Gentry of New York, New York, and Hannah Katheryn Gentry of Katy; as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other cherished relations and friends.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Katy, Texas.
In lieu of flowers and other gifts, the family requests that charitable donations be made to St. Peter’s United Methodist Church (stpkaty.org), and The Hyacinth Fellowship (hyacinthfellowship.org).
