AJ Bates made a leap in his sophomore campaign.
The Seven Lakes guard took his game to a different gear in his second year on varsity, helping the Spartans to a District 19-6A title and a 33-5 record.
He made up one of the most formidable duos in the district along with Tahaad Davis, who was named the Districts offensive player of the year. Seven Lakes lost only once in district play and made a run to the area round behind both players terrific seasons.
For his efforts in charge of the Spartans, Shannon Heston was named the districts coach of the year.
Tompkins’ Nick Lancit was named the district’s defensive player of the year after helping to lead the Falcons to a second place district finish and a bi-district appearance, Tompkins overcame an injury to its top scorer and still competed for a district crown this year.
Mayde Creek’s Christian Jones was named the newcomer of the year in the district after a freshman season where he averaged over 14 points and dished out 4.9 assists per game whle averaging two steals and only turning the ball over 1.7 times per game. He along with a young core for the Rams had their best season in school history this season in which they reached the regional quarterfinals.
