Katy (10-1) vs. Cy-Falls (9-2), 7 p.m. at Tully Stadium
Last year: Did not play
Katy heads into the second round of the playoffs and will go up against a very good Cy-Falls team that has been on a roll lately heading into the area round. The Tigers come off a dominant win over Alief Elsik, but one that they know they can improve on heading into the second round. Katy led nearly wire to wire, but allowed Elsik to stay in the game and only led 17-13 led in the first half. But Kat’s offense came out firing in the second half to earn the blowout win. Aqualis Jordan scored two touchdowns on the day, on runs of 19 and 10 yards, while Tremayne Hill ran in a 10-yard score, Tony Manuel scored on a 10-yard run and London Pilbeam ran in a 1-yard score. Gunner Nelson threw two touchowns, from 18 yards to Jon Stephens and from 36-yards to Israel Olotu-Judah. Katy added three field goals, including a 50-yarder from Adam Carter. Cy-Falls comes into the game with both a strong offense and defense, scoring 38 points per game on average this season while giving up just under 15 points per game on average. Brandon Derbigny Jr. has had a decent year through the air, throwing for 846 yards and six touchdowns to five interceptions, but Cy-Falls has been led by its run game. Eric Manuel has run for 834 yards and six touchdowns, while Gabriel Wilson has rushed for 800 yards and four touchdowns, Chase Ferrell has rushed for 413 yards and six touchowns and Derbigny has rushed for 278 yards and six touchdowns. Ferrell also leads the Eagles in receiving with 34 catches for 458 yards and three touchowns as the Eagles have won eight straight games coming into the contest. The Tigers will have to be at their best with their run defense and with moving the ball without turnovers on offense to get past the Eagles. It’s a big one for the Tigers as they will be determined to get to the third round after falling in the second-round last season.

Jordan (10-1) vs. Stratford (8-3)
Last year: Did not play
Jordan will try to keep making school history as they go up against Stratford in the second round in a big matchup. The Warriors come off a hard-fought win in the bi-district round, outlasting Foster to advance in the playoffs for the first time in school history. Jordan got a big game from Dominic Cangolosi. The senior quarterback ran for 110 yards and threw for 224 yards and two touchowns. Andrew Marsh also had a big day, catching 11 passes for 149 yards and two touchowns, while Jordan’s defense came up with key stands and allowed barely over 200 yards of offense to Foster. Tanner West had 67 yards on the ground and Landon Williams had 75 yards receiving as Jordan’s offense struggled at times but made the plays it needed to get the win. The Warriors will get a Stratford team that has been strong this year and been fantastic on offense, losing just three games and averaging over 46 points per game, while giving up 25 points per game this season. They have been led by Aaron DeLeon, who has had a terrific season at quarterback. The senior has thrown for 1958 yards and 18 touchdowns to just five interceptions while rushing for 851 yards and 14 touchdowns. Javier Denson has rushed for 919 yards on the ground and 13 touchdowns, while David Kendall has rushed for 551 yards and six touchowns. Hunter Biehl leads the way receiving wise for Stratford with 907 yards on 38 catches while five other touchowns have all contributed with two touchowns on the season for Stratford. For Jordan they will have to be at their very best in the secondary and on defense while they will try and build off a good week in the pass game last week and be better in the run game. The Warriors have never reached the third round of the playoffs and will need to be at their best to keep making school history.
