Tompkins boys, Seven Lakes girl take gold at district golf tournament
The Tompkins boys and Seven Lakes girls took home the crown of District 19-6A champions the past two weeks.
The Tompkins boys ran away with the title, shooting a dominating second round that was 11 better than their closest competitor.
The Falcons came into the second day of the competition needing to make up four strokes on Seven Lakes, who had held the lead. Tompkins shot a +33 to do just that, shooting 67 over, over the course of the two days, while Seven Lakes came in second and will also advance to the regional tournament as a team.
Tompkins was led by Colt Tenpenny and Jeff Borchert wo shot 155 and 157 respectively. Tennepy finished with an individual silver medal while Borchert tied for third. Diego Montes (161), Sumi Bandi (171) and Rahul Karthik (171) will make up the Tompkins team that advances to the regional tournament.
Shaun Nair won the individual gold medal at the tournament, shooting 10 over the two days and will be joined by Nikko Taggart (160), Andon Herrera (166) Ted Sui (170) and Chase Foster (187) will make up Seven Lakes team at the regional tournament.
Katy’s Joseph Hroch will also advance to the regional tournament after finishing tied for third with a total score of 157.
The boys regional tournament will be held from April 20-21 at Eagle Point Golf Club in Mont Belvieu.
On the girls side, Seven Lakes ran away with things to come away with a district title.
Maelynn Kim dominated the field, shooting four under for the tournament and besting the next best competitor by 20 strokes to take home the individual gold medal.
Seven Lakes finished the tournament at 668 strokes to take home the gold and advance to the regional tournament as a team while Taylor came in second, shooting 703 as a team to advance.
Seven Lakes entire team they will bring to the regional tournament finished in the top 15 individually in district. Kim will be joined by Kay Song (169), Krisna Mahendran (171), Sydney Conover (190) and Barbara Guerra (201).
Faith Chang led the way for the second place Mustangs, shooting 158 and finishing third individually at the tournament. She will be joined by Audrey Rosen (164), Jisoo Yoon (189), Sarena Lawji (192) and Alex Marty (205).
Cinco Ranch’s Mallorie Luitweler took home an individual silver medal at the tournament, and advanced to regionals after shooting a 156 and Tompkins Annika Choi finished fourth, shooting 162 to advance to regionals.
The girls regional tournament will be held from April 18-19 at Eagle Point Golf Club in Mont Belvieu.
