Seven Lakes’ Xu wins gold at state tennis tournament

Seven Lakes’ Allan Xu capped off a dominant weekend at the Class 6A State Tennis Tournament with a gold medal, taking first place in the boys singles with a strong effort in the final.

Xu earned the top singles honors while Taylor’s Ally Lin took home the silver in the girls singles and Aidan Xu finished with the bronze in boys singles.

Allan Xu only went to three sets once in his run to the state title, beating Plano’s Dmitri Goubin in the quarterfinals 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 before going on to beat College Park’s Juno Pethe 7-5, 6-2 in the semifinals. Xu capped it off with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Luke Riezebeek from Westlake in the final.

Aidan Xu took down his quarterfinal opponent Dallas Jesuit’s Connor Cole, in three sets 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in the quarterfinals, but fell in three sets in the semifinals to Riezebeek 6-4, 0-6, 3-6, still going on to take the bronze with a win over Pethe in the third place match.

On the girls side, Lin beat Edinburg North’s Maya Chen 6-4, 6-1 before going on to beat Coppell’s Alexandra Patton 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals. Lin’s run came to an end with a silver medal as she fell to Memorial’s Michelle Li in the state final 1-6, 3-6.

Allen’s Chelsi Son and Saheba Singh son the girls doubles title, Round Rock Westwood’s Danny Zhang and Leon Chen won the boys doubles title and Plano West’s Gopal Koduri and Cody Huang won the mixed doubles title.
