Seven Lakes and Jordan advanced to the area round on Tuesday, with the first and third seeds out of the district earning wins in the bi-district round of the playoffs to both advance to the second round for the second straight season.
District 19-6A split with District 20-6A in the opening round of the playoffs. The Warriors and Spartans advanced, while Paetow and Katy were unable to get wins against good competition, with the two’s seasons coming to an end on Tuesday.
The Spartans beat Ridge Point 72-56 in the opening round, behind a huge second half. It was a slow start for Seven Lakes, the Spartans trailed 13-12 after the first quarter and still trailed by one at half, but they broke things open in the third quarter, outscoring Ridge Point 28-8 to take a 54-35 lead into the final quarter where they cruised to the win. Seven Lakes advances to the area round for the third straight season and will face Cy-Creek in the area round time and date to be determined
Jordan overcame the second seed Elkins in the area round, where they were locked in a defensive battle for a game that wasn’t decided until the final whistle with the Warriors winning 36-30. Jordan took an 8-6 lead after the first quarter but Elkins used a strong second quarter to come back and go into the half up 19-13. Jordan turned things around in the third quarter and reclaimed a 26-23 lead before holding on by outscoring Elkins 10-7 in the final quarter. The Warriors advance to play Cy-Fair in the area round, time and date to be determined.
Paetow was unable to keep up with Fort Bend Travis in its first round matchup, falling 74-63. The second seeded Panthers fell behind 27-24 and could never make up the deficit, keeping things close but not being able to reclaim the lead as Paetow’s season came to an end in the bi-district round.
Katy hung tough with Clements but were not able to stay with the No. 5 ranked Rangers, with Clements exploding in the second half to earn the win 67-42. The game was tied after one quarter at 11 and Clements only led 30-26 at half, but Clements outscored Katy 21-8 in the third quarter to open up a 51-34 lead which the Tigers were unable to come back from.
