On August 29, the Jamaica Lions Club was officially chartered in Katy, during a celebration at the Harris County MUD No. 81 office at 807 Hidden Canyon Road. About 26 new members were inducted, said Chase West, president of the Greater Houston Lions Club.

“You could sense the fellowship and the desire to make a change for good in our world,” West said in a Facebook post on August 30. “I am so proud of our club for being their sponsor club and look forward to working with them and many other clubs in the near future.”

The current District Governor, 1st Vice District Governor, 2nd Vice District Governor, and many Past District Governors attended, West said in the Facebook post.

At the event the new Jamaica Lions club also collected shoes for the shoe drive currently underway at The Ballard House in Katy, a nonprofit that provides temporary housing for patients traveling to the Houston area for life-saving medical treatment.
