Loyd McPherson, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on February 4, 1934, in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, Loyd was the beloved son of Dewey R. McPherson and Maggie May Johnson McPherson. He spent his formative years in Anadarko, Oklahoma, where he graduated from Oney High School in 1953.

In 1955, Loyd made a significant move to Katy, Texas, where he would remain for the rest of his life. Loyd was a man of loyalty and dedication, traits he demonstrated throughout his 50-year career at Miller Petroleum, where he delivered fuel to local farmers, ensuring that their machinery was always operational and their livelihoods supported.

Loyd’s love for family was evident in everything he did. He married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Sikes, on August 19, 1955, in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Together, they built a home filled with love and laughter until her passing. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, as well as his sisters Lena and Vergie McPherson, and brothers Ray, Roy, and Raymond McPherson. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Debbie Lopez, and a loving lineage of grandchildren including Kelli Weinman (Eric Velazquez), James Weinman (Nikki), and Casey Weinman Leggett (Joe). He took immense pride in his great-grandchildren: Kamryn Velazquez, Emma Velazquez, Colton Leggett Weinman, Chance Leggett Weinman, Lillian Weinman, and Elijah Velazquez. Loyd’s heart also extended to many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his life.

Loyd’s life was rich with simple pleasures and interests. He enjoyed playing Bingo and LCR, sitting on his porch, and watching classic John Wayne movies. He had a particular fondness for watching his grandchildren play soccer during their youth. His love for animals shone through his fondness for Boston Terriers and caring for the doves that he kept in his yard. Known for his engaging personality, Loyd often took the time to visit with anyone who had a moment to share, always equipped with a better way of doing things to share with his daughter, Debbie.

A funeral service will be held at Schmidt Funeral Home’s East Avenue Chapel on Monday, April 14,2025 at 10:00 AM, where Chaplain Daniel Schramm will officiate. Loyd will be laid to rest in Katy Magnolia Cemetery, beside his beloved wife, a fitting final resting place for a man who loved his community and family deeply.

As we remember Loyd McPherson, we celebrate a life well-lived, characterized by loyalty, love, and an unwavering spirit. He touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy that will endure in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
