More than 400 people turned out on Sunday afternoon, October 6 for the inaugural “Logan Dark Memorial Run, Walk or Ride,” held at Betty Sue Creech Elementary, 5905 S. Mason Road in Katy. Participants ran, walked, and biked – and skated and scootered -- courses of different lengths to honor the life of Logan Dark, a Cinco Ranch High School freshman, who was killed as he biked to school, hit by a passing motorist.
The event was held as part of National Pedestrian Safety Month. A statement from Katy ISD on their Facebook page announcing run said, “Let’s come together as a community to advocate for pedestrian and cyclist safety on our roadways and trails. Your participation can make a difference!”
Josh Dark, father of Logan Dark, served as the emcee for the event, and said in his opening remarks that over 40 pedestrians had been killed in Fort Bend County in the past year, according to figures from TxDOT, which he said represented a 70 per cent increase year-over-year. Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan, along with District Attorney Brian M. Middleton, were also present.
