After 20 years, school is finally out for Katy ISD school board member Rebecca Fox, who is stepping down after 20 years of service.

Fox moved to Katy when the district had 32,000 students and has watched it grow during her 23 years in the area. She served as a member of the Katy ISD Board of Trustees from 2004-2019 and was elected again in 2021. Fox has held every officer position, including three times as president of the board. She is a graduate of the class of 2007 Leadership TASB (Texas Association of School Boards) and has earned the distinction of Master Trustee. Fox is also a member of the TASB Legislative Advocacy Network. During her time as a Trustee, she helped establish the vision for the Katy ISD Education Foundation and is a groundbreaking investor.

At the September 21 meeting of the board, special recognition was given to Fox, including tributes from every current board member, beginning with Board President Lance Redmon. Trustee Cicely Taylor praised Fox for attending every single high school graduation during her years of service. Trustee Dawn Champagne thanked Fox for her mentorship and said that Fox was her role model in her work as a trustee. Trustee James Cross described his long friendship with Fox and thanked her for her guidance when he joined the board.

Six public speakers, including former KISD board member Bill Lacy who served with Fox, also praised Fox.

Fox will be relocating to the Dallas area in order to be closer to her grandchildren. She expects to remain involved with schools, she said in her 20-minute farewell statement.
