For the second consecutive year, Katy ISD has earned the Career and Technical Education (CTE) District of Distinction designation from the Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT), recognizing the district’s commitment to innovative programming, workforce readiness and student success. Katy ISD made the announcement on October 16.
The recognition highlights Katy ISD's efforts to prepare students for college, careers and the workforce through CTE programs aligned with industry needs. CTAT's District of Distinction program honors school districts that demonstrate excellence in career-focused education, innovative instruction and community partnerships.
More than 32,000 Katy ISD students are enrolled in CTE courses across 40 programs, with nearly 45 percent of graduating seniors earning an industry-based certification before graduation. Through hands-on instruction and partnerships with local industries, students gain practical experience and develop skills that prepare them for career opportunities after high school.
“Earning this recognition for a second consecutive year reflects the dedication of our CTE educators and the strength of our industry partnerships,” Katy ISD Director of Career and Technical Education Nicholas Gonzales said. “Our focus is on providing students with meaningful opportunities to explore careers, gain firsthand experience and earn industry-recognized credentials that prepare them for post-graduate success.”
CTAT's CTE District of Distinction program recognizes districts that meet criteria in workforce alignment, innovative instruction, industry-based certifications and student outcomes, showcasing recognized districts as models for effective CTE practices across Texas.
The designation reinforces Katy ISD's continued investment in career-connected learning and its commitment to expanding opportunities that prepare students for high-demand careers.
“Katy ISD congratulates its students, educators and industry partners whose efforts continue to strengthen CTE programs and prepare students for future success,” a district spokesperson said in the October 16 statement.
