Jordan Seven Lakes, Tompkins and Taylor will all send athletes to next week’s Class 6A UIL State Tennis tournament.
The State Tournament will be played Wednesday and Thursday at Northside Tennis Center in San Antonio.
Jordan’s Keerthana Hari and Ikshu Shandilya qualified for the state tournament in girls doubles after winning the Class 5A Region III final, advancing as the first seed out of the region, while Namrata Mehjika qualified after finishing second in the region and making the regional final in girls singles. Vincent Rivas and Rachana Hari qualified for mixed doubles in the same way, finishing second after making the regional final.
Seven Lakes will send Anna Boleau and Liska Knight to the state tournament in girls doubles after the two came away as Class 6A Region III champs. After winning the District 19-6A title in the same event, the duo went through to the regional final, where they defeated Memorial’s Hallie Jeffers and Rahi Singal 6-2, 7-6 to advance.
Taylor’s Jonathan Lin and Ally Lin finished second in the region to advance in boys doubles. The duo won their district event and advanced to the final, where they lost. But then they beat Memorial’s Nate Raney and Kat Lowy 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 in a close match to make it to state.
For Tompkins, Mihir Amte and Charlie Kuchler were runner up in boys doubles to advance to the state tournament. The duo also won their event in district and advanced to the final before losing, but they beat Clement’s Gabriel Shu and Nishil Gandhi in the playback 6-4, 6-4.
For Kuchler, this is his second straight year qualifying for state, as he was a single qualifier last season, he was also the Fall District 19-6A Tennis MVP. Amte made last year’s regional tournament in singles, but this will be his first trip to state.
Tompkins Patrick Chen narrowly missed out on qualifying for state, finishing third in boys singles to end his sophomore season, he had won district before making it to the playback and losing.
Arjun Kumar and Ananya also made it to the regional tournament for Tompkins but weren’t able to advance any further in good seasons for both.
Kayla Wan and Anshu Lakshman made the regional tournament for Cinco Ranch, but fell in the first round 2-6, 6-2, 603 in the first round to Clear Creek’s Mary Tacorda and Katelyn Gross. For Wan, it was her fourth straight regional tournament, it was Lakshman’s first regional tournament in her senior season.
