It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of our beautiful mom, Frines Keeling on April 7, 2023.
She was born in Paysandu, Uruguay on February 11, 1940 and married the love of her life, Joe Keeling, in 1971 after a chance meeting at the Caracas Airport. They had a love at first sight storybook romance and lived in Lima, Peru where their two children were born. They also lived in Caracas, Venezuela and eventually moved to the United States and settled in Katy, Texas.
Frines was known for her kindness, loving heart and strength of character. She will be dearly missed by all who had the good fortune to know her. Her family was her passion, and she was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She had many friends, took pride in helping others in need and was a well-loved member of the community.
She and Joe enjoyed traveling all over the world. Amongst her favorite destinations were Israel, Singapore, Japan and cities all across Europe. Experiencing new cultures and meeting and understanding the people of the world was a treasure to her.
Frines had a myriad of health issues over the last 20 years, but they never held her back from enjoying life and family. No matter what challenge she was facing, she persevered with a smile on her face. She was the strongest person we have ever known, and she leaves a wonderful legacy of perseverance and resilience for all that survive her.
She is survived by her two children, Martin Keeling of Katy, Texas and Barbara Keeling Steen and her husband Lias Jeff Steen of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by two step-children, Tim Keeling and his wife Robbie Keeling of Lake Winnebago, Missouri, Kathy Keeling Pearse of Oceanside, California, and daughter in law Becky Rush of Houston, Texas. She adored her grandson, Lias Fletcher Steen and was immensely proud of her six beautiful step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Adee, Stephanie Vermillion, Vanessa Keeling, Richmond Keeling, McKinnon Dziadaszek and Jake Steen. She is also survived by three wonderful step great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Ada, and Callen.
Frines is preceded in death by her loving husband of forty-seven years, Joe and her stepson Tom Keeling, her mother Elena Inetti, her father Pedro Gonzalez, and her sister Olga Ortiz.
A funeral mass in memory of Frines is scheduled for April 17, 2023 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church at 5356 11th Street in Katy, Texas at 12:00 p.m. Frines will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
