Taylor (2-5, 1-4) vs. Jordan (7-1, 5-1) 6:30 p.m. at Legacy Stadium
Last year: Taylor 30, Jordan 24
- Taylor and Jordan face off in week nine with both teams trying to bounce back after losing in their previous matchups, with the Warriors trying to towards the top of district and the Mustangs coming off a bye week and trying to climb the standings in the last month of the season.
Taylor took a loss to Katy last time out and comes off its bye week. The Mustangs struggled last time out, being shut out by Kat and will be trying to build on its offense. This game between Taylor and Jordan was one of the most exciting in all of district last season and Taylor came out on top. The Mustangs used a strong day from Daniel Bruns, who threw for 157 yards, and Jeremy McCullough, who had an 81 yard touchdown to earn the win.
Jordan comes off a loss to Katy and will be looking to bounce back after its offense was held without a point in the matchup. Chad Gasper led the way rushing despite only having one carry in his return to the lineup, carrying his one rush for 38 yards, while Beau Bryant had 21 yards on the ground and 80 yards through the air in the game. Tanner West led 28 yards receiving to lead the team and Rocky Alo-Perry came away with Jordan’s only points on an interception he returned 81 yards for a touchdown.
It will be a matchup where both teams look to bounce back to earn wins and continue to improve on offense. Jordan will be out for revenge both after last week and with the way last years game went between these two schools, while Taylor will be fighting to climb up the standings and earn a big win as we hit the final month of the season.
Katy (6-1, 5-0) vs. Paetow, (6-1, 5-0) 7 p.m. at Rhodes Stadium
Last year: Katy 31, Paetow 7
- The final two unbeaten teams in District 19-6A play and the two teams who are tied atop the district standings face off this week as Katy and Paetow will battle for what could be the deciding game for a district championship.
Katy comes off its biggest win of the season, beating district challenger Jordan last week behind a tremendous defensive performance where they held Jordan’s offense without a point. On offense, Tremayne Hill and Aqualis Jordan both went over 100 yards rushing, while Gunner Nelson threw for 58 yards in the win. The Tigers were dominant on the ground but struggled to move the ball through the air, only completing four total passes on the day, but making up for it with the teams defense that never allowed Jordan to get on the board.
Paetow comes off a big win over Seven Lakes, where the Panthers dominated on both sides of the ball. Jackson Farrar led the offense on the day and was great passing. The senior threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Ikenna Nwobu, a 43-yard pass to Jeremy McCullough and a 9-yard pass to Joshua Scott. Ja’dorean Boykins ran in a 2-yard score and Jaedon Spelmon returned an interception 99-yards for a touchdown.
It will be a battle of strength on strength between Katy and Paetow. Both teams pride themselves on running the ball and extremely strong defense and both teams pass games build off of the success of their run games with play action. It’s a matchup that could come down to who is able to hit those plays in the pass game or which defense holds up better and both teams will be excited and ready for it.
Friday
Cinco Ranch (2-6, 2-4) vs. Mayde Creek (4-3, 2-3), 6:30 p.m. at Legacy Stadium
Last year: Cinco Ranch 35, Mayde Creek 0
- Cinco Ranch and Mayde Creek will play in a matchup of teams hoping to fight back into playoff contention, with both having fallen out of the top four but hoping a win and other results could help put them back in the playoff conversation.
The Cougars come into the game on a three-game loss streak and are in need of a win to get back on track. Cinco fell to Tompkins last time out, but the teams offense did everything to keep the Cougars in it. Charlie Adamoli threw for 269 yards, with Scott Eckel catching nine passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns, while Drew Tureau caught five passes for 53 yards and a touchdown and Brayden Gonzalez rushing for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively was where the Cougars struggled, they allowed 287 yards on the ground and 174 yards through the air as they couldn’t stop Tompkins offense on the day.
Mayde Creek meanwhile earned a win last week and will be trying to build on it. The Rams beat Morton Ranch last week behind a balanced effort from the offense. Trey Williams had a good day throwing the ball, completing 19 of 33 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown, while he added 81 yards and a touchdown on the ground on 15 carries. Daylin Robinson had 93 yards on 10 catches while Chad Nelson had 32 yards receiving and 48 yards rushing. Defensively the Rams held Morton Ranch to just 14 points and helped earn the win.
Both teams will try to attack through the air and do enough defensively to earn the win and it has the makings of a good matchup this week.
Seven Lakes (3-4, 1-4) vs. Tompkins (4-3, 3-2), 7 p.m. at Rhodes Stadium
Last year: Tompkins 42, Seven Lakes 0
- Seven Lakes and Tompkins meet to close out the week of games in a matchup where Tompkins is trying to stay in the top four of district and Seven Lakes is looking to get back in the win column.
The Falcons come off arguably their biggest win of the year as they outlasted Cinco Ranch for a huge win. Tompkins offense stepped up in the game and scored 50 poiints. Ethan Meadows led the way, rushing for 236 yards and four touchdowns, while Justin Thierheimer was huge as well, throwing for 174 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 48 yards and another score. KJ Madison had 75 yards receiving and Bisi Bello had 70. Tompkins defense struggled to stop Cinco Ranch at times throughout the games, but they did get a big interception and multiple turnover on downs to get the ball back to the Falcons offense.
Seven Lakes meanwhile comes off a loss to Paetow last week, where they couldn’t stop the Panthers pass game and struggled to get going on offense. Seven Lakes did do a good job against the run on defense, but allowed three touchdowns through the air. The Spartans offense got into the endzone in the second half on a 5-yard throw from Shaan Patel to Carter Hatten, but were not able to get more points on the board after that.
It’s a big one for different reasons for the teams. Tompkins needs the win to keep pace in the playoff race, while Seven Lakes is trying to get back into the win column as the Spartans try to climb the district standings.
