Tompkins DC Robinson named Freeman head football coach

Tompkins DC Robinson named Freeman head football coach

Katy ISD announced Monday that Tompkins defensive coordinator and assistant head coach Eric Robinson has been named the first ever Head Football Coach and Campus Athletic Coordinator of Freeman High School, which will open this fall and become the 10th Katy ISD High School.

Robinson, who had been with Tompkins since 2018 comes with a lot of success under his belt. The Falcons reached the playoffs in all six of his seasons, reaching the regional semifinal in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Before joining Tompkins, Robinson was the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director for Brookshire Royal, from 2014-2016, and Beckville in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. He also served as co-defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator at Carthage. Overall in his five years as a head coach, Robinson compiled a 14-36 record as a head coach, with his best season coming in 2013 at Beckville where the led the Bearcats to a 7-3 record.

While at Tompkins and at Carthage, Robinson earned a number of accolades. He was named the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year in 2022-23 and the Katy ISD Assistant Coach of the year in 2020-21. During his time at Carthage, they won three straight Class 3A-Division II State Championships from 2008-2010, with the team having an undefeated district record from 2007 to 2010, which included 31 consecutive wins.

Robinson graduated from Stephen F. Austin, where he played linebacker for the University and earned a bachelors and masters in kinesiology along with certifications in All Level Physical Education K-12 and Social Studies 8-12.

His final year at Tompkins was a strong one, where the Falcons had a 7-4 record, with a 6-2 District 19-6A record and a bi-district appearance, where Tompkins lost to Ridge Point. The Falcons won six straight games heading into the playoffs and gave up an average of 22.6 points per game on the season, lowering that to 19.8 points per game in district play, which was second best behind only the Katy Tigers. Overall during his time at Tompkins, the Falcons gave up just 17 points per game from 2019-2023.

Freeman will join the UIL in 2026 and will open this fall with its first ever freshman class, which Freeman will get a chance to mold before they join varsity play.
