Timetable set for temporary traffic signal at Clay Rd. and Katy Hockley Road, precinct says

Commuters in the rapidly-growing northwest quadrant of Katy may soon see a little relief.

The intersection of Clay Road and Katy Hockley Road – now served by a four-way stop – is set to receive a temporary traffic signal.

“The project is currently in design, with the goal of a temporary traffic signal to be installed and operational at the intersection of Clay Road and Katy Hockley Road before the start of the 2026-2027 school year,” a spokesperson for Harris County Precinct 4 told the Katy Times in response to an inquiry from the publisher.

The busy intersection serves not only southbound traffic from the northwest quadrant to downtown Katy and ultimately to Interstate 10. It is also a significant bottleneck for traffic headed for three schools in the immediate area – Faldyn Elementary and Haskett Junior High to the east and Cross Elementary to the west.

“As part of a long-term solution, Precinct 4 is also advancing the design of Clay Road, including improvements at this intersection, to increase roadway capacity and install a permanent traffic signal that will further enhance both safety and traffic flow,” the Precinct 4 spokesperson said.
