Seven Lakes state champion soccer team had a big week.
The team was honored on Thursday during the Seven Lakes home football game against Tompkins, as members of the soccer team were brought out at halftime, with the crowd and Katy ISD celebrating their accomplishment at Legacy Stadium.
It was a celebration for the team. The Spartans had a banquet before the game where players and coaches received their state championship rings. For a group that had been waiting for over five months for this moment it was a special thing. It was also a callback to maybe the defining moment of Seven Lakes season, when the Spartans trailed Cinco Ranch in the third round of the playoffs by two goals to zero with under 90 seconds left in the match before tying the game with two late goals and winning it in penalties.
The Spartans won the state championship by beating Dripping Springs 2-1 after beating Sachse 3-1 in the state semifinals. Seven Lakes ended the year with a record of 28-1-1 and a district record of 15-0-1, going on a 29 game unbeaten streak during their run to a state championship and ending the year as the No. 1 ranked high school team in the nation while also having a +93 goal differential on the year.
