Seven Lakes is headed back to the state tournament for the first time in eight years.
Seven Lakes earned a dramatic victory over Memorial in the regional final last weekend to secure their spot in the state tournament, with things coming down to the final point for the Spartans to earn their spot at state.
Seven Lakes won 10-9 over Memorial in the regional final, with everything coming down to a 10-point tie breaker. The Spartans improved to 16-3-1 on the year in the process and earned their fifth straight win and have now gone 16 straight matches unbeaten dating all the way back to a pre-district show down with Fort Bend Clements. It was the first time any team had beaten Memorial in Region III play since 2008.
It’s the second overall appearance for Seven Lakes and they will face a tough test in the state semifinals against Allen to start things on Wednesday morning. Allen is making its first state appearance and has a 23-3 record on the year. Allen has won 13 matches in a row and also comes into the match with a tiebreaker win from their regional final against Southlake Carroll.
Seven Lakes is looking to make history, the last time they were at state in 2016, the Spartans lost in the semifinal round to Plano West, 10-4, and this group has a chance to take it one step further with a win on Wednesday.
The other 6A semifinal is Round Rock Westwood (18-0) against The Woodlands (17-3-1) with the winner of both advancing to the state final on Thursday afternoon.
