Ruizstudios Home Décor opens in historic downtown Katy

Husband and wife Beverly and Rey Ruiz have opened Ruizstudios Home Décor at 5625 Second Street in downtown Katy, in the historical Katy Drug Store location.  The couple previously had a business in Old Town for 15 years but moved to the new location on December 1.

“We are excited to be adding our store and shopping experience to the overall revitalization of downtown Katy,” Beverly Ruiz said in an email interview with the Katy Times.

“I am an artist,” Beverly Ruiz said.  “I started out in business in the little house that was on First St. owned by Mr. Stanbury.  It was an antique/vintage/new home decor shop with a studio in the back.  People started asking me to paint in their homes and businesses.  That started in the mid 90’s.  The little house has been torn down since.  After the decorative painting business and doing shows, I got a booth in KT Antiques in 2010.  I was in KT Antiques for 15 years and was the manager for eight of those years.  In addition, we had a store in this location at 5625 Second St from 2016 to 2019 but wanted to travel a couple of years so gave up the little corner store.  We also had a store in Warrenton, TX, for several years.  We really missed our little shop on the corner 5625 Second. Guess what…We are back!”

Ruizstudios Home Décor has an eclectic mix of old and new, with enticing furniture, accessories, textiles, gifts, glassware, art, seasonal, sports memorabilia and more.  The store carries Tyler Candles, Tyler Candle Laundry Wash and Botanical Potpourri/Oils. In additions to offerings from the Ruiz couple, the store also features six vendors in an open floor plan design.

“We have a lot of unique and one-of-a-kind treasures,” Beverly Ruiz said.

Among the unusual items in the store are two antique cash registers, an antique grocery scale with working lights, a full-size ship’s helm wheel and an assortment of whimsical gold animal wall mounts with monocles, glasses and pipes.

The owners regularly post new arrivals on social media and deploy emails to promote sales and events.

“In the future, we plan on doing an event with the Heritage Society to showcase the history of the building,” Beverly Ruiz said.
