Royal ISD receives ‘D’ rating from TEA for fourth consecutive time

The mid-August release of the Texas Education Agency’s 2026 accountability ratings showed that Royal ISD in Brookshire received a “D” rating with an overall score of 64, according to the TEA website.

The district has been graded “D” by TEA in 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Its last “B” ratings were in 2022 and 2019; the district was not rated in 2021 due to a “declared state of disaster” and no Texas districts were rated in 2020 due to the pandemic.

The district’s overall score fell from 65 in 2025 to 64 this year, the same as in 2024. It received a score of 81 in 2022. The district was scored as follows in specific areas:

· Student achievement: 64, up from 62 in 2025

· School progress: 63, down from 64 in 2025

· Academic growth: 62, up from 59 in 2025

· Relative performance: 63, down from 64 in 2025

· Closing the gaps: 64, down from 66 in 2025

The district is considered 66 per cent economically disadvantaged, according to the TEA website.
