‘Quilts of Valor’ ceremony honors seven local Katy veterans

Seven local veterans were honored on March 24, during a Quilts of Valor ceremony held at the Katy VFW Hall, 6206 George Bush Drive in Katy. The ceremony was conducted by the Montgomery Lone Stars’ Quilts of Valor (QOV) chapter and hosted by the Star of Destiny Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR).

The event recognized veterans for their service, presenting each with a handmade quilt as a tangible expression of gratitude from a grateful nation. Among those honored was a husband-and-wife veteran couple, making the ceremony especially meaningful for attendees.

Members of the Star of Destiny Chapter provided refreshments and served as hostesses for the event, supporting both the visiting QOV chapter and the honored veterans. Hosting the ceremony aligns with the chapter’s ongoing commitment to patriotism and service to those who have served, said Laurell Cull, Regent, Star of Destiny Chapter, NSDAR. The ceremony served as a reminder of the enduring gratitude owed to America’s veterans and the meaningful role local organizations play in honoring their service, said Cull.

The Montgomery Lone Stars QOV chapter has set an ambitious goal of awarding 250 quilts in 2026 in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. Each quilt represents comfort, recognition, and appreciation for the sacrifices made by veterans and their families.

Community members who wish to recognize a deserving veteran may submit a nomination through the Quilts of Valor Foundation website at QOVF.org.
