Mayor Joe Garcia said the event is funded by a grant from the Houston-Galveston Area Council and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
“Last year, we collected over 23,000 pounds of used tires, over 10,000 pounds of hazardous/non-hazardous paints, over 100 containers of pesticides, over 55 gallons of used oil and over 900 pounds of low-great electronics from over 130 participants,” Garcia said. “Around 40 volunteers supported our event last year.”
Garcia said this year the city plans to increase the volume of hazardous waste and used tire collections.
