National Spiritual Council Coalition partners with Red Cross Disaster Relief for volunteer training

Posted

On May 14, the National Spiritual Council Coalition held free disaster relief training at the Brookshire Convention Center, 4029 5th St I Brookshire. The event, presented in partnership with Red Cross Disaster Relief, drew about 20 attendees who completed mass care/sheltering/service/associate certification.

The preparation is intended to help volunteers provide the following, in case of a storm or other disaster:

· Emotional support

· Safe facilities for shelter

· Vital supplies

· Emergency assistance

· Recovery information

The partnership serves Brookshire, Katy, Hempstead, Pine Island, Prairie View, Waller, Monroeville and Sunnyside.

“We must be proactive to assist our residents for safety and shelter along with medical needs in our area when a disaster strikes, said Waller County Director Lee Nelson Jones. “Our main goal is to have a hurricane/storm or disaster plan in place.”

The group will meet quarterly for additional training.
