Local GEICO office spearheads drive to present a car to local veteran

On Tuesday, Oct. 28, GEICO and Eagle Collision Repair Center presented a refurbished 2020 Hyundai Elantra to Army veteran Tracy Nelson at GEICO’s Merchants Way office in Katy. The donation is part of the National Auto Body Council’s (NABC) Recycled Rides® program, which provides reliable transportation to those in need. Nelson was nominated by the Houston Southwest Vet Center, dedicated to helping veterans, service members, and their families.

Nelson, a U.S. Army veteran who served from 1995 to 1998 and then was in the reserves, has been working to readjust to civilian life since her discharge. Upon returning home, she became a full-time caregiver – first for her father, then for her mother and stepfather. Her caregiving responsibilities, combined with a lack of reliable transportation, made it difficult to secure steady employment. After honoring her parents in both life and death, Nelson is now focused on rebuilding her life.

With the support of veteran resources and the gift of a dependable vehicle, she is taking steps toward independence. The donated car will help her pursue employment opportunities and achieve personal goals as she reintegrates into civilian life.

“Reliable transportation is a vital step toward self-sufficiency, and this collaboration ensures that deserving individuals receive not just a vehicle – but a renewed path forward,” said a spokesperson for GEICO.

This fall, GEICO Cares, GEICO’s employee volunteer initiative, is partnering with the National Auto Body Council’s Recycled Rides® program to provide the gift of mobility to veterans like Tracy Nelson. · For this donation, Eagle Collision Repair Center generously volunteered time and labor to restore the 2020 Hyundai Elantra to like-new condition. · Enterprise Mobility contributed additional support to NABC Recycled Rides® recipients.

· GEICO Cares continues its commitment to community service through meaningful partnerships that uplift veterans and strengthen local communities.
