On October 22 Katy Theatre Company (KTC) announced their arrival to the Katy community. Founded and led by local theatre professionals and educators, KTC will produce exceptional shows that celebrate local talent, provide remarkable acting and vocal training, and build a vibrant arts community in Katy, organizers said.

“Six months ago, we began a series of roundtable discussion involving KISD staff members, public, private and homeschool families, and church communities to insure a well-rounded due diligence process,” said Christian Brown, executive director and co-founder, in an email to the Katy Times. “Additionally, each person on the KTC team has years of experience in the arts sector professionally and in an education setting.”

“We’ve learned there is a vibrant performing arts community waiting for musical theatre excellence in Katy.” Brown said. “Rather than driving 45+ minutes down I-10 to gain access to professional training, there’s a gap ready to be filled in our local community.”

“We are excited to bring high-quality theatre performances and opportunities to the Katy community,” said Laurelle Brown, co-founder and co-music director. “By combining the passions of theatre professionals, educators, and advocates for the arts, we truly are setting the stage for extraordinary talent.”

KTC is announcing “A Showcase of Musical Excellence” – an inaugural musical theatre revue program for students ages 8-18. Aligning with Katy ISD’s spring break holiday, this program takes place from March 9-13, 2026, and will showcase local, emerging talent in performances on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14.

“This inaugural program will pave the way for our first full-scale production in Summer 2026,” said spokesperson Katy Z. Heerssen in the October 22 press release.

“A Showcase of Musical Excellence” will be led by Artistic Director Angela Feeney, a veteran theatre performer, vocal coach, and local educator. Auditions will take place on January 11, 2026, and students interested in auditioning can sign up at www.katytheatrecompany.org starting on October 22.

“For the inaugural season, we will perform at local church (March musical theatre revue) and likely, a local private school theatre venue for our summer musical (July, title coming soon),” said Brown. “Our goal is to find a long-standing home at a theatre venue in Katy allowing professional-level production value and easy access for the Katy community.”

“Our first season will include two productions, the first of which is a musical theatre revue in March; auditions taking place on January 11,” Brown said. “In July, we will mount a full-scale production of a well-known, full-length musical with a full cast of local theatre students ages 8-18. Title announcement and audition information coming soon. Our goal is to produce two to three full-scale musicals each season, likely fall, spring and summer.”

KTC will provide a creative home for kids, teens, and young adults to discover their voices, grow as artists, and shine on stage. “It’s our intent to serve students who are passionate about theatre performance and offer them more opportunities to receive excellent instruction from people who have experience in the professional theatre world,” said Brown.

While the first two productions will feature students ages 8-18, Brown said that the theatre company is thinking through how to engage performers of all ages. “We’ve heard the desire, and we’ll do our very best to widen our offerings in the coming years,” he said.

“There is an incredible amount of talent in our community,” Feeney said. “We offer students a safe experience that operates on a professional level, and we know Katy’s ready for it.” KTC can be found online at www.katytheatrecompany.org and @katytheatrecompany on social media.
