The City of Katy has now declared Stage 2 (moderate) drought conditions as hot, dry weather continues in Southeast Texas.

The city asks that residents and businesses take the following actions:

• Continue exercising voluntary reduction of water usage.
• Reduce watering and/or irrigation to three times per week.
• Refrain from establishing new landscaping until the current drought has passed.
• Reduce water use for power washing of buildings, sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, tennis courts or other hard surfaces.

The city is taking the following actions:

• Halting landscape irrigation use at all city facilities.
• Halting nonessential government water use including: street cleaning, vehicle washing and operation of ornamental fountains.
• Halting the establishment of new landscaping.
• Limit hydrant flushing, except for water system repairs.

Katy can expect continued hot weather for the next few days. The National Weather Service forecast calls for a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon, continuing into the evening.

Conditions Saturday through Wednesday are expected to be hot and dry, with high temperatures in the high 90s and lows in the 70s.
