The Katy Heritage Society, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), invites local residents to participate in a meaningful Community Outreach Event at the Katy Community Cemetery on Monday and Tuesday, August 25–26, 2025. The cemetery is located at the corner of Stockdick Road and FM 1463 near the Katy Freeway.
“This initiative seeks to honor the legacy of those laid to rest in one of Katy’s most historic cemeteries while bringing the community together through service and remembrance,” said a spokesperson for the Katy Heritage Society in an email to the Katy Times. Volunteers will assist in mapping the fenced-in portion of the cemetery to support efforts in documentation and preservation.
“Preserving the history of Katy means preserving the stories of the people who built this community. The Katy Community Cemetery holds incredible significance, and we’re proud to partner with TxDOT to invite residents to help honor and protect it,” said Adrienne Davitz, president of the Katy Heritage Society. “This is a unique opportunity for community members to give back in a meaningful way.”
The Katy Community Cemetery, a resting place for generations of Katy residents which is currently under the care of the Antioch Baptist church, holds historical and cultural significance. This volunteer-driven effort will contribute to future preservation plans and ensure this sacred space remains a part of the city’s story.
Volunteer shift options will be provided upon sign-up. No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to serve and an appreciation for Katy’s rich heritage. Residents, students, families, history enthusiasts, and civic groups are encouraged to participate.
