“It feels good to get that accomplishment,” said senior linebacker Noah Coughran. “It was great to come out here and clinch it and go through district undefeated. We’re having fun every day and working hard. That leads to good things.”

Katy checked the first goal off its box on Friday.
The Tigers first big goal heading into every season is to win a district championship. They had that wrapped up heading into the final week of the season, but there was one part of it that wasn’t finished heading into the last week of the regular season that Katy wanted to make sure it took care of.
Katy was out to clinch an undefeated district title on Friday and did just that, beating Taylor 49-3 to improve to 9-1 on the year and end District 19-6A play with an 8-0 record.
“It feels good to get that accomplishment,” said senior linebacker Noah Coughran. “It was great to come out here and clinch it and go through district undefeated. We’re having fun every day and working hard. That leads to good things."

Katy dominated the game from the start and never looked back. Tremayne Hill ran in a 76-yard touchdown on the Tigers first offensive play and Romel Jordan added a 2-yard touchdown in the first quarter as Katy went up 14-0. Jordan kept going in the second quarter, adding two touchdown runs of six and three yards before Gunner Nelson threw a 5-yard touchdown to Chase Johnsey late in the first half as Katy went into the locker room with a 35-0 lead.
Katy’s defense stepped up in the game and limited Taylor throughout. The Tigers held Taylor to just 19 yards in the first half and 149 yards overall.
“We had to put a lot of work in defensively and the tackling has gotten a lot better throughout the year,” said Katy head coach Gary Joseph. “They’ve responded, but now we have to continue getting better. We have to make those one on one tackles because we are going to see some really good football players from here on out. We can get them in position but they have to make plays and that’s what’s important.”
Katy added a touchdown from Chase Johnsey early in the third quarter and Romel Jordan had his fourth touchdown of the night on a 4-yard run early in the fourth quarter. Taylor got a field goal late to prevent the shutout but Katy walked away with a dominant win.
Tremayne Hill finished the night with 183 yards while Romel Jordan added 94 and four touchdowns, as Katy ran for 333 yards as a team.
“I just try to run with violence,” Jordan said. That’s how I can assert my will on teams and that’s how I can change the game. My goal is to come out and be aggressive every game against every team. I think it helps my guys out there when I do that.”
Katy will take on Fort Bend Travis (7-3) in the bi-district round. The Tigers know they will need to continue to improve through the playoffs if they want to make a deep run.
“The biggest thing is we have to keep improving,” Joseph said. “Our pass game has to start getting back in rhythm, we were doing really well and then the past couple weeks its gone in a funk. The guys are talented and I know we can do the stuff we need to, we just need to fix some things. We have a really good Travis team in front of us and its just going to keep going from there. You have to play the hand dealt to you and we’ve done it before. But you have to be at your best every week of the playoffs.”
