Katy Christian Ministries held ceremonies on July 15 to officially open its new expanded Food Center at the nonprofit’s headquarters at 3506 Porter Road in Katy – including a ribbon cutting with the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce and a rope cutting for the Fulshear Regional Chamber for Commerce.
The new Food Center now has doubled its original 5,000 square foot area with additional warehouse space and a “shopping area” where KCM associates can more easily fulfill orders for its clients. The improvements to the food center will allow KCM to increase the number of residents served from the current level of 60 to 80 cars per day, four days a week to 200 per day five days a week, officials said.
The expansion was made possible through contributions from area churches, including Resurrection Methodist Church which contributed volunteers to assist with the remodeling and construction, and other congregations that contributed electrical work. The Houston Food Bank donated commercial coolers and freezers.
The Food Center, formerly known as the food pantry, was renamed in March 2026, in response to growing demand in the area. The nonprofit also met with partner organizations Houston Food Bank and United Way. After discussions, the decision was made to update the name to “Katy Food Center” which is more reflective of the organization’s increase in size and the increase in need in the entire greater Katy area. “We are not just a little ‘pantry’ but a full-sized food center,” a spokesperson told the Katy Times when the name change was announced.
