Michael Meihls, a longtime Katy homeowner, small business owner, and community leader, announced his candidacy for Katy City Council, Ward B on January 6, launching a campaign focused on practical leadership, responsible growth, and protecting the quality of life that makes Katy a great place to live, according to his press release.

The Meihls family relocated to Katy in 2016. Early in their time as residents, the community experienced the Tax Day Floods of 2016, an experience that, along with Katy’s rapid growth, strengthened Meihls’ commitment to community involvement and thoughtful planning to protect neighborhoods and infrastructure, Meihls said in his statement.

Born and raised in Wapakoneta, Ohio, Meihls attended Defiance College before building a more than 20-year career in manufacturing and production management, leading teams and managing budgets. In 2017, he started his own business, transitioning to it full-time in 2022. “As a small business owner, Meihls understands the importance of fiscal responsibility, efficient services, and practical decision-making,” the release said.

For the past nine years, Meihls has served on his neighborhood homeowners association board, including seven years as president, working closely with residents to address concerns, manage resources responsibly, and improve neighborhood safety and infrastructure. He and his wife are also State of Texas licensed foster parents and have served in that role for the past three years.

“Katy is more than a city, it’s our home,” said Meihls. “I’m running for City Council because I believe local government works best when it listens to residents, plans responsibly, and puts the community first. Ward B deserves leadership that asks the right questions and makes thoughtful decisions on behalf of our residents.”

Key priorities of the Meihls campaign include responsible growth and infrastructure planning, flood mitigation, fiscal responsibility and transparency, support for public safety and small businesses, and preserving Katy’s strong sense of community and family values, Meihls’ statement said.

The election for Katy City Council, Ward B will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026.
