The Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) invites the public to attend the Installation Service of the Rev. Tracey Breashears Schultz as the fourth bishop of the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod on a special ceremony on September 7.
This historic event will be marked by a worship service featuring leaders from across the ELCA. Presiding is The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, Presiding Bishop of the ELCA, The Rev. Susan Candea, fourth bishop of the Central States Synod will be preaching and honoree Breashears Schultz will also participate. The installation service will include a procession of clergy, sacred music, and the formal rite of installation.
The service will take place on Sunday, September 7 at 4 p.m. at Living Word Lutheran Church, 3700 South Mason Road, Katy. Livestream details will be available on the synod’s website. A reception will follow the service.
Bishop-elect Tracey Breashears Schultz was elected in May 2025 to serve a six-year term as bishop of the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod of the ELCA. She is the first woman elected to this office in the synod’s history. She brings decades of pastoral leadership, theological depth, and a passion for preaching, worship, faith formation, and evangelism to this office. Tracey Breashears Schultz is a graduate of the University of Arkansas (B.A. English/Spanish-1996), Wartburg Theological Seminary (M.Div.-2007), and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (D.Min in Preaching-2014). She is married to Chris Schultz, an architect and lifelong Lutheran.
