Former Katy City Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tem Chris Harris began working with the Katy Area Economic Development Council as membership coordinator in late June, advocating for business retention and with federal and state representatives for regional mobility needs.
Harris served on the Katy City Council from 2018 until May 2026, including seven years as Mayor Pro Tem. He was unable to run again due to term limits. At the end of his term, he was recognized for an eight-year record of perfect attendance at City Council meetings.
Harris was also recently appointed by City of Katy Mayor Dusty Thiele and the Katy City Council to serve on the Village at Katy Development District (VKDD), which supports the development of a mixed-use commercial area near I-10 and Pin Oak Road, facilitating economic growth and public improvements that benefit the community
Harris continues as board member on the Coastal Prairie Conservancy and the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce board. Additionally, he is commissioned as a Lay Servant Leader at church, is a lifetime member of Katy Heritage Society, and was nominated as Volunteer of the Year at Katy Elementary.
A fifth-generation Texan, Harris and his wife Danielle, who is a Katy native and public school educator, are licensed foster parents. They have five children and one grandchild. All actively participate in their church, school and community, including Red Cross volunteers, Katy High School booster clubs and regular members of Katy First United Methodist Church.
