On May 5 Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones announced the Summer Break phase of Sidewalks 4 Precinct 4, an initiative to create safe pathways to schools, parks, and neighborhood hubs. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the parking lot of the H-E-B store at 1621 S. Mason Road in Katy, near the site of the project’s expansion in the area. In the Cinco Ranch area, residents must walk or bike through parking lots to navigate around the neighborhood. This has led to four pedestrians being seriously injured, a spokesperson said prior to the event. While students are on break this summer, crews will build ten more miles of new sidewalks, including 4.25 miles along South Mason Road. This will create safer connections from 1-10 to the Fort Bend County line, to over 900 businesses, 3 schools, and 119 medical offices. Joining Briones at the press conference were Morgan Stagg, President of Cornerstones MUD; Tim Miller, President of Memorial MUD; and Chief Deacon Tittle, Harris County Emergency Services District 48.
