Fort Bend County commissioners approve new redistricting map

In a heated meeting of the Fort Bend County commissioners court on October 13, a new redistricting map was approved by a narrow 3-2 vote. Commissioners Dexter McCoy and Grady Prestage voted against the measure.

The new map changes precinct boundaries for voters across the county. The newly adopted map, created with the support of a bipartisan Citizens Advisory Committee, ensures legal and equitable representation across the county, county officials said in a press release. Under the approved boundaries, the Commissioners Court will reflect a balanced 2-2 political makeup, comprising two Republicans and two Democrats.

Precinct 1, currently represented by Commissioner Vincent Morales, lost some precincts near Mission Bend, which were moved to Precinct 4.

Residents can view the updated districts by going to the Fort Bend County website at https://gis.fbctx.gov/pages/redistricting-2025~44f40a2ea99047d0a5ae9462da604cbb and choosing “Court Adopted Map.”

The redistricting process stemmed from a letter from GOP state Rep. Matt Morgan, who informed commissioners in February that roughly one-fifth of their voter precincts did not meet the state's population requirements.
