The new faces on Katy’s city council will be Paul Follis, Johnston Dietz and Michael Meihls – all selected by voters in the May 2 election.
Follis, a retired law enforcement officer, defeated newcomer A. J. Bailey for the At Large position by 747 votes (84.11 per cent) to Bailey’s 140 votes (15.89 per cent). Follis will succeed Mayor Pro Tem Chris Harris, who is term-limited and cannot run again.
Ward A will now be represented by Johnston Dietz, a cable company operations manager, who bested Fidium senior account manager J. R. Richardson by 230 votes (64.07 per cent) to 129 votes (35.93 per cent). Dietz takes over Ward A from Janet Corte, who is also term-limited and cannot run again.
Ward B’s choice to replace outgoing council member Rory Robertson – also term-limited – is Michael Meihls, a , who garnered 298 votes (56.87 per cent) in a four-way race that included graphics professional Lyn Hunter Sullivan (who received 168 votes or 12.06 per cent), IT manager Michael Payne (45 votes or8.59 per cent), and Roger Lowry, a retiree (13 votes or 2.48per cent).
The vote is expected to be canvassed at the next meeting of Katy’s city council on May 11.
